4th of July Celebrations!

Well, we had a good day as we celebrated the birth of our nation, which, by the way, is STILL "under God."

Last night we celebrated a little earlier by going to my parents for fun and good ol' American (Texas???) brisket and peach cobbler. What a fun time we had!

Brian honored the day by launching the shuttle.

While he was working, the kids and I made tempra paint firework pictures as Elizabeth Foss had suggested on her blog. The kids always enjoy doing art projects, especially when they involve painting. This was a fun one.

We also made ribbon streamers and read this book, this book, and this book about our nation and its history!

We also managed to make a "Basic Vanilla Cake" to take to Brian's parents for dinner tonight. We had an enjoyable visit with them as well and we enjoyed good ol' American (right??) hamburgers on the grill, as well as vanilla cake with fresh blueberries and strawberries on the side. We left Gamma and Pappa's house a little after their bedtime and then decided to catch some fireworks on the way home. Andrew was already asleep and never woke up, even though we were so close that you could feel the pounding in your chest. It is so against my orderly, scheduled nature to take such a deviation from our norm, but in the end I was so glad. The kids really seemed to enjoy it - I think? :)
