Little Author

Today, part of Nicole's assignment from our Sonlight plans was to rewrite at least part of the story that she has read this week - Green Eggs and Ham. She was to rewrite using the same format, but different foods and locations, etc. She read through the book and dictated to me her version of the story. We did a good portion of the story, but it would have taken a lot more time and effort on her part to do the entire book. She loved this! Then I typed it up for her. We printed it off and stapled it into a book and then she illustrated each page. I had left plenty of spaces for drawings. She was not feeling confident of her drawing skills and I wasn't sure she was going to enjoy completing it, but she felt better when her brother offered to draw an outline of a crane for her. Then her confidence was boosted and she completed all of her other illustrations on her own. It turned out adorable. If I can get her to read it like a storyteller, I will take a video. Below is the text from her storybook. We may try and rewrite Dr. Seuss' ABC book as well.

Brussel Sprouts

and

Root Beer

Do you like brussel sprouts and root beer?

I do not like them, Lily dear.

I do not like brussel sprouts and root beer.

Would you like them in a crane?

Would you like them with a cane?

I do not like them in a crane.

I do not like them with a cane.

I do not like them here or there.

I do not like them anywhere.

I do not like brussel sprouts and root beer.

I do not like them, Lily dear.

Would you eat them in a truck?

Would you eat them with a duck?

Not in a truck.

Not with a duck.

Not in a crane.

Not with a cane.

I would not eat them here or there.

I would not eat them anywhere.

I would not eat brussel sprouts and root beer.

I do not like them, Lily dear.

Would you? Could you?

In the pool?

Eat them. Eat them.

They are cool!

I would not,

could not,

in the pool.

You may like them.

You will see.

You may like them with some tea!

I would not, could not with some tea.

Not in a pool. You let me be!

I do not like them in a crane.

I do not like them with a cane.

I do not like them in a truck.

I do not like them with a duck.

I do not like them here or there.

I do not like them anywhere.

I do not like brussel sprouts and root beer.

I do not like them, Lily dear.

Hilarious! What a great idea. Glad to see Sonlight is working so well for you. I know how hard it is to find a curriculum that works.
